The JFK Factor: Bill O’Reilly on the Assassination, Then and Now

You may have heard that the Fox News celebrity host Bill O’Reilly has a forthcoming book on JFK, timed for release this fall. How could you have not heard? Scheduled in anticipation of the 50th anniversary of Kennedy’s death in 2013, the book has been heavily covered by the media—examples here, here and here–despite a near total lack of information as to the content. Here’s an excerpt from USA Today which is typical:

“As with most baby boomers, the murder of JFK was a signature moment in my life,” O’Reilly, the top-rated Fox News talk show host and a former high school history teacher, said in a statement. “Killing Kennedy will answer many questions about the president and why his life was cut short.”

What sort of answer will O’Reilly provide to the fundamental and extremely controversial question about why Kennedy died? Will he perpetuate the mainstream media’s near-constant advocacy of the lone-nut scenario? O’Reilly did not even hint at how he would handle it or whether he has any new information.

Yet another book by O’Reilly, his recent “Killing Lincoln,” was, as some reviewers noted, more like a John Grisham rendition of the tragedy than the work of an investigative journalist or scholar intent on major breakthroughs—or even deeper understanding.

OBLIVION

Let’s compare the nature of O’Reilly’s current bestseller fare, and the media’s receptivity to it, with journalism done some years back, again on the JFK assassination—by the very same Bill O’Reilly. The earlier work had some major, groundbreaking revelations—and legitimate, very hot content, based on reporting conducted in the early 1990s. It will come as a surprise, because most of us never heard about the show’s revelations—not at the time, and not since. There’s a reason: the highly disturbing, even threatening evidence of a mostly unexplored link between Oswald and U.S. government agents.

Watch Bill O’Reilly below, back when he hosted the syndicated television show Inside Edition:

Key excerpts:

“O’REILLY: Living in Dallas, Oswald was befriended by Russian-born George de Mohrenschildt. Investigators determined he was a contract agent for the CIA in Central America and the Caribbean. In 1977, moments before he was to be interviewed by House investigators, de Mohrenschildt blew his brains out with a 20-gauge shotgun. House investigators believe he was a crucial link between the CIA and Lee Harvey Oswald.

There is no question that the sealed JFK Files are extremely embarrassing for the CIA. House investigators have told Inside Edition that the Agency did not fully cooperate in their investigation and that the CIA had final say in the final report that the House Assassinations Committee made public. Thus the public report makes no mention of the CIA’s links with Lee Harvey Oswald. But the secret documents are another story.

…House investigators uncovered evidence that the CIA planted nine agents inside the Garrison investigation to feed him false information and to report back to Langley what Garrison was finding out.

That was explosive content, and O’Reilly was prepared for major press interest in this scoop. That’s not, however, the way things played out.  Jerry Policoff, who interviewed O’Reilly back in those days for an article in the alternative  newsweekly The Village Voice remembers:

“He thought the piece was so important that he held a press conference to promote it.  Of course no mainstream media showed up.  He expressed his astonishment to USA Today, and I interviewed him as a follow-up.  He repeated to me that he could not understand how the media could not even show up at a press conference on such an important issue.

Ok –so that was Bill O’Reilly back then, in the 1990s, before he became a breakout star. Will O’Reilly’s new Kennedy book really tell us why he died?

Not likely, if we consider what it took for O’Reilly to make it big-time.

One pundit, who used to appear on Fox a lot in O’Reilly’s first years there, recalls a producer mentioning that O’Reilly wanted to continue doing JFK assassination reports, but that network chief Roger Ailes and other top management “kept stepping on the story.”

Years later, O’Reilly is on a roll that is likely to continue—provided he plays his cards right.

The lesson is this: Listen to the higher-ups, don’t step on the wrong toes, and you, too, can make it to the top.

We look forward to seeing if today’s O’Reilly takes inspiration from his younger, feistier self in probing beneath the official story of the Kennedy assassination. But we’re not holding our breath.

the only truth in the warren report [ which like the bible almost no  one has read ] are the names of the stooges who authored it. if you  look closely at arlon specter [ who wrote the magic bullet story in the report] you, with the right eyes can see oswalds ghost hovering over his shoulder.

Dulles is often overlooked and not considered as a suspect in the conspiracy, because JFK had fired him, and he wasn’t that much of a public figure after that, until LBJ put him on the Warren Commission. The appointment of Dulles to that commission is ethically questionable, and reeks of a predetermined outcome of the commission.  Another person of interest should be J. Edgar Hoover — personal friends and adjacent neighbor to Lyndon Johnson for many years. Hoover’s FBI assumed all investigative authority at midnight on the day of the murder. Gerald Ford was also on the commission, and was secretly spiriting documents out of the closed meetings, then handing them over to the FBI. So Hoover’s FBI was able to know ahead of time what evidence the commission sought, & could sanitize it beforehand. Dulles naturally could ensure CIA collusion, having been the director for a number of years. So with Lyndon Johnson having presdential authority,  along with Hoover’s FBI handling the investigation & evidence, those three individuals should be viewed as highly suspect in participation in conspiracy of JFK’s murder, and the conspiracy to cover it up. As for Oswald, he was a snotty bastard, and likely was involved as a low-level operative, unaware that his role had been predetermined.

good points , but as a 16 year old in 63 who’d recntly at the time,  discovered occams razor [ roughly the simplest explanation is often the truth]  thought disgruntled dulles operatives had done the murder. its in the cover-up that all these others became involved. to paraphase jack nicholson ” america can’t handle the truth”.

If you’re ready for the answers to your questions- James Douglass: “JFK and the Unspeakable”

    • http://www.facebook.com/dmsearle Donn M Searle

__You really need to read the book! It’s available on Amazon. The few answers I’m about to give to the questions you raise here, are going to appear too outrageous to be considered, without having the Douglass book in front of you with the details and near-1,000 citations, including recently released U.S. and Russian government reports, that corroborate the conclusions made in the book. Douglass begins by examining the work of previous investigators; then tests and builds from that body of evidence.
      As to your questions:
      1. The assassination was orchestrated by the only group capable of conducting a coup of this magnatude: The CIA. The FBI and certain agents of the Secret Service were complicit, as was the Mafia and there is some evidence, Lyndon Johnson.
      2. Oswald told the truth when he said, as he was being hustled down a hallway at the Dallas Police Headquarters, “I’m just a patsy.” He is not the assassin, but an unsuspecting CIA contact, set up to take a fall.
      3. The head wound that killed the President, was the result of a shot fired from a high-powered rifle; NOT the cheap Italian rifle left in the Book Depository.
4.The physicians attending the President in the emergency room at parkland, all signed affidavits that the points of entrance of BOTH the throat and head wounds, was from the front.
      5. The autopsy drawings done at Bethesda -by a Navy doctor who had no training in forensics, under direction of FBI agents in the room, submitted fraudulent drawings that were immediately (albeit quietly), rejected by the Parkland physicians.
      6. The first telephone call made by Robert Kennedy, (following J. Edgar Hoover’s curt phoned message that his brother had died), was to the Director’s office in the CIA -demanding to know who had given the order to assassinate his brother. The CIA and some top military officers had long been involved in sabotaging JFK -and from his clandestine talks with Nikita Krushchev, during the Cuban Missile Crisis, JFK knew what the CIA was up to. Both men were under tremendous pressure from their respective military advisors to risk a nuclear showdown -which, had shots been fired, neither leader could have prevented. That is why, comunicating in private through Pope John XXIII, the two were able to avert a nuclear exchange that could have resulted in the death of 500-million in a little over one hour.
      7. JFK had two priorities to attend, on his return from Dallas on 23 November: The immediate stand-down from the widening war in Vietnam, and the re-organization of the CIA. LBJ countermanded JFK’s order on Vietnam -instead, authorizing an increase in troop deployment. And Robert Kennedy made an immediate decision to enter the presidential race himself, to complete his brother’s unfinished work -which got him killed by the CIA; not Sirhan. Much earlier, Harry Truman is reported to have said of the CIA: “Had I known it would become an
American Gestapo, I would have never allowed it.”
Understanding in depth, the connection between the Kennedy assassinations and the CIA, requires reading, beginning with the Second World War, the OSS, why it was disbanded and Truman’s reluctant decision to replace it with a Central Intelligence Agency that from the beginning, began to violate Truman’s restrictions on its mission.
But start with the Douglass book; there is much of that history referenced.

The Moorman photo taken Dallas Texas 22 November 1963, shows snipers nests on the Grassy Knoll, and muzzle flashes behind the picket fence left screen, with E Howard Hunt firing on President Kennedy, and Martin Luther and Coretta King to his right.

The “Badgeman” enhancement, shows Dallas Police officer Joe Smith, firing from behind the rotunda wall, alongside Gordon H Arnold talking on a hand held radio, with an unidentified bald guy, and deaf mute Ed Hoffman and his missus to his left.

William F Buckley, has been identified as Umbrella Man, whose raised device signaled the shooters on the GK, that all systems were go .. Lee Harvey Oswald was blamed, for killing the President and Dallas Police Officer Tippets, a couple miles away around forty minutes later.

Despite photographs that show him at the doorway of the TSBD, when the shots were fired in the first instance, and when the three tramps were marched by hours later!

Ted Gunderson FBI bureau chief in Dallas when President K was murdered, is in a video in possession of a rifle on the sixth floor of the TSBD, after the shooting, he was in Memphis when Martin Luther King was shot, and in Los Angeles when Senator Robert Kennedy was slain.

He became a principle in the Franklin Case cover up, which goes back nearly thirty years, whereas Rusty Nelson says Hunter S Thompson paid him $100,000 a time, to film snuff killings to the tune of around fifty dead!

The Three tramps were E Howard Hunt of Watergate fame, Charles Harrelson father of television actor Woody Harrelson, and Charles Frederick Rogers, wanted in Houston TX, for killing and dismembering both his parents in 1965.

I agree with Eric. I did a quick Google search on his claim that Buckley is Umbrella man It seems Mr Timothy  is cutting and pasting this same diatribe on forums all across the web. Pretty busy fellow. Regarding the 50th, O’Reilly has  book coming out and so does Bugliosi. And of course there’s always Posner? (why does MSM always turn to Posner on controversial subjects? It’s always puzzled me). I hope you’re planning a big splash. I think you should write a book on JFK for the 50th, too. You could call it “Where were you on November 21, 22 and 23, 1963.” In and of itself, an exhaustive rundown would be very illuminating.

What a scramble of incorrect factoids Martin Timothy serves up — obviously designed to obfuscate and confuse. Among the lies is that Mr. Hoffman, the deaf mute man, was behind a “rotunda wall” on  the grassy knoll with his wife. In fact,he was standing alone on the overpass looking down on the motorcade and also with a view of the scene behind the picket fence, where he saw a man dressed in a railroad worker uniform break down a rifle, hide it in a railroad tool deposit box and walk away. With the help of a translator, Mr. Hoffman gave a guided tour to researchers once (perhaps more than once) — I was on that tour. Martin Timothy is part of the on-going cover-up of the conspiracy that killed JFK.

i mark 63   as  the date the police state apparatus began its ascendence in  amerika. when no one was punished the facist element knew they had won. from that date its one horror after another. was it truman who said ” the business of america is business?” now the business of america is “security ” [which combined with the  prison system is amerikas biggest employer , in both the private and public sectors. ]

    • http://twitter.com/NanaLenore Penny Hernandez

Calvin Coolidge said “The business of America is business,” during the unregulated banking and stock market of the 1920s.  We all know how well that ended.  However, you are right about (s0me of) the business of America being security, ramped up by the constant fear pandering in the wake of 9/11.  Privatizing prisons is a really dumb idea – the corporations running private prisons are FOR-PROFIT.  In what universe can this be a good idea?   A police state works when citizens are driven by fear.  Benjamin Franklin said those who will trade liberty for security deserve neither.    This is painfully evident now.  Perhaps instead of looking for fascist elements under every bed and behind every tree, follow the money.

The fact that Bill O’s Lincoln book was so widely criticized for being factually problematic at best. If you would know the truth behind the assassination of John F Kennedy, you omust read the exhaustively-researched book (containing nearly 1,000 reference notes, including documents released years after the assassinationm by both the Russian and American governments, as well as papers made available by Nikita Krushchev’s son): “JFK and the Unspeakable” , by James Douglass.

    • Red34birds

Yes, IMO JFK and the Unspeakable is the best book published since 1945.  I have read all of them. No seriously folks coma Unspeakable has ALMOST 3,000 FOOTNOTES!!!  Marcus Raskin called is a sourcebook for any future study of the Cold War.  OF ALL GREAT ANSWERS TO THE LEFT-GATEKEEPERS AND HIRED FAKE-LEFT KENNEDY REASSASSINS LIKE CHOMSKY AND COCKBURN, THIS IS THE BEST ONE!!  This is because it is not a ‘liberal” book but stares right into stuff like the Indonesian Genocide the same way Chomsky pretends to.

Everyone should not only read this and Family of Secrets BUT POST ABOUT THEM SO NEW YOUNGER EYEBALLS WILL SEE THEM. Unspeakable is so important because it is the best answer to Why It Matters!!!!

The corporate media will not “share” truth.  YOU HAVE TO!  THE BEST PLACE IS BIG NEWSPAPER WEBSITES WHERE THOUSANDS CAN SEE IT , FULL SPECTRUM.  OHHHHHMMMM ALREADY.

Russ any way you could write an article on this article and this guy is also popping up in Hffpost .   Amazing comments here that are nothing less than a systematic rape of history

The truth is that whenever people come up with a good idea (like representative government), other people will begin to eat away at the idea for their own selfish purposes.
Now that Congress has given the President authority to order the U.S. military to arrest and detain anyone, without a warrant or access to a lawyer, and hold them indefinitely incognito, I think its safe to say that the Constitution has become nothing more than a sham, and that the American experiment in self-governance has come to an end.
The Kennedy murders, and the cover-up surrounding them, were important waypoints on the journey which has led us to the present sad state of affairs.
The fox is in the henhouse, and all that’s left is blood and feathers.

JFK, and the rest of the assasinations ever since that were passed off as accidents.  Regan’s shooting.  All blindingly obvious home made jobbies, that it doesn’t take another idiot to point out the obvious and smear history a little more. (like his last book.  Every asylum should have a copy)

Maybe you might have another Glen Beck on your hands if Fox gets sick of his show and tries to “pull it”.

When Kennedy was shot and killed I knew immediately who did it -somehow, I said Johnson did that.  And of course you know Kennedy was tied to the communist party somehow-remember the death of  Lana Turner and the comments about the party?
The “party” is still alive here and very active. They wouldn’t want anything to be told about them.  Johnson I am sure was a member and did all the right things to set up Kennedy’s demise – who probably was a threat to them and definitely not ruling their way. He did some pretty decent things.  His mother was the only decent member of the family  (of  the men anyhow -led by the overpowering demands of the father) and Rose left the country, not even to come back for her son’s funeral.
The party is doing a lot of money laundering now from Soros-Paul-Romney.  I hope that can be advertised widely before the election or we will have someone worse than Obama in our WH!!!

Ran into a big collection of YouTubers, multiple parts, “Evidence of Revision”–maybe 8 or 9 hours’-worth.  This Bill O’Reilly clip starts around 1:15:08 of Part II (if you can figure out the titling scheme–difficult–  http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=endscreen&NR=1&v=0lmEp87bvOw

Puts together JFK, RFK, MLK, Jonestown (CIA MK-ULTRA follow-on, but with a large group of folks (from state & federal prisons, homeless shelters, juvenile court).  US military stationed nearby–”mass suicide” tale resolves into mass murder, 400 killed–then throughout the night, the escapees were tracked down and killed, adding another 450 to the toll–needle marks behind scapula, where victims couldn’t reach, but 80% or so were gunshot victims). 9/11 not covered, or I just couldn’t find it. If you did/do, let me know.   Seems like it’s all a special ops gang, maybe Mongoose, of CIA, FBI, Franchised Crime USA, & Military Intel.

As attorney Pepper, who brought the King family’s civil case (I think–it helps to be intimate w/ all the investigations and I’m not) put it, They can kill anyone they want. And there’s no way you can prevent them. (this in part 5 or 6). Seems truth’s far stranger than fiction.) They’s a cold wind a’blowin’.

Good interview with Ian Punnett on Coast Friday night, too short as usual.
I recall a book released in advance of a large JFK document release in 1994 called “Case Closed” by Gerald Posner. The timing of the release was suspicious, and his conclusions supporting the Warren Commission findings fly in the face of the anomalies exposed by an army of researchers in the intervening 30 years.
Posner is still trotted out by various media as some sort of expert on the topic, but to me he’s just another propaganda agent. Is O’Reilly’s offering a preemptive strike in advance of the 50 year JFK murder observances?

What is the reason that Fox is still not wanting to talk about the JFK assassination today–hasn’t enough time passed?  I would still like to know the real opinion of Geraldo Rivera–wasn’t he fired from 20/20 for wanting to go forward with a story about JFK.  What was that story–I would like to know his true feelings.

Why did Caroline Kennedy not want “The Kennedy’s” shown on the History Channel–I thought it was an informative and entertaining show–not really with new information–but it did put the facts into an understandable time line.

There are so many tiny facts about JFK–it should be laid out in a simple but informative way we all can understand.  I do feel like it is almost all out there now–or at least enough important information to get the big picture–but there is so much minutia and so many people taking credit the clear picture is hard to see.

I bet Russ Baker could take the facts we know now and make a time line with explanations the general public could understand.  I think once there is less confusion the real story will jump out for everyone to see.  The story is there but we can’t see it because it is shrouded in misinformation.  You show it to us, Russ.

The History Channel cut out an hour of their documentary on the JFK assassination. It was the part about Oswald’s girl friend and her two books about their relationship. There is a book about this called, “Dr. Mary’s Monkey.” It is the only book on the JFK assassination that tells the true relationship that Oswald had with JFK. It seems Oswald was actually working for JFK trying to gather information on the CIA which JFK wanted to get rid of. …Then there is the disturbing bit of film on You Tube that shows Three Secret Service agents suddenly being waved off the back bumper of JFK’s limo by a Secret Service
agent in the limo behind JFK’s limo. One of the Secret Service agents when jumping off JFK’s limo even shrugged his shoulders three times in disbelief….If that doesn’t indicate a government conspiracy, then how do you explain this. Plus the fact that the limo behind JFK’s limo then quit following JFK’s limo entirely.

THE WARREN COMMISSION PUT TOGETHER WHAT THEY THOUGHT WAS A GOOD COVER-UP BUT IT REMAINS A LIE.  THE “KILL SHOT” CAME FROM KENNEDY’S RIGHT FRONT ABOUT 2 O’CLOCK FROM THE MAN ON THE HILL.  WHEN/IF BILL O’REILLY BRINGS THIS OUT IN HIS BOOK WITH OTHER EVIDENCES THEN JUST MAYBE THE “MAGIC ONE SHOT” OR “THREE SHOT” THEORIES FROM THE BOOK DEPOSITORY WILL BE LAID TO REST.  THE REAL EVIDENCE IS THAT 8-MILLIMETER CAMERA PHOTO AT THE MOMENT OF IMPACT.  THAT EXPLAINS IT ALL UNLESS ONE CHOOSES NOT TO BELIEVE THE TRUTH.

    Russ,
I believed you missed an opportunity to close the loop, both from an evidence standpoint and from a political/relational one. After this video is a great place to put De Mohrenschildt’s letter to George HW Bush begging for his life. You prove the shady aspect of de Mohrenschildt and his violent death, the next step is to provide suspects.
In any murder investigation if someone had written a letter to anyone begging for mercy and admitting some kind of unpleasing situation between the victim and any other party it would be considered material evidence.
The fact that Bill O’Reilly provides the story about de Mohrenschildt and that the CIA provides that material evidence is really poetic justice as I read somewhere that Poppy is a Fox News fan.
I think the letter: here, for your readers http://www.maryferrell.org/mffweb/archive/viewer/showDoc.do?docId=5761
is the best bit of evidence of foul play in both murders. Dissecting the letter and what he is really saying in it is really amazing.
Congratulations of an excellent site. I’m a big fan.

Anti-Castro Cuban exiles killed JFK, and because the Feds had trained them on the art of assassination and equipped them to kill Castro, they had to cover it up and frame LHO. Tippitt was killed by the estranged husband of a waitress he’d impregnated.
